I am now on Facebook.

I'm there with my real name and a recent (cruddy photo) and everything. I was expecting to hate Facebook, but I'd accrued three formal invitations and a number of hints, so it seemed like enough of my friends were there for it to be worthwhile. So far, I've found one long-lost friend and reconnected with a number of former co-workers. Might turn out to be worth it after all.

I'm not sure what Facebook is for?

It's a social networking site. I use LinkedIn more because it's supposed to be more professional, but Facebook has tons more people. It has lots of little goofy extras, a few of which interest me. Sign up! I'll friend you!

Well, I did it. I'm doing extremely well at my sermon procrastination, you see. And you'll never guess who I found... The missing one of our group of 6 from H.S.

Really? That's amazing!

You know how I wrote yesterday about finding the brother of a high-school crush on Facebook? THAT WINDOW IS STILL OPEN ON MY DESKTOP. Add to friends?

Facebook = the devil.

Of course! Facebook is much less formal than LinkedIn. I've gotten and accepted invitations from folks I worked with on only one (successful, mind you) project.

Hahaha, my comment was all about MASSIVE HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA and you're all, "Whatever! Add him!" You have to be the least neurotic human being I know.

If that were the case, there would be cause to worry about everybody else you know. Seriously, the worst thing that can happen is that he won't remember you. And it sounds like he might be worth knowing. Most people get a lot cooler after high school.

I may have to do it. I was just talking with an old college roommate, and he's on Facebook and Myspace and was talking about finding another old college roommate of ours on Facebook. So now that's two people in a week who've talked to me about being on Facebook. It may be time.

But, honestly, it's getting a lot to keep up with. I've got two ljs, a blogspot, a wordpress, and now maybe a facebook? I can't even keep up with my *@#% e-mail.

I'm still working out Facebook's place in my life, too. I don't think I want to spend a lot of time on it filling out quizzes and turning my friends into vampires and so forth. On the other hand, I have a lot of trouble getting my non-LJ friends to read my blog. This would at least help keep friends up to date on major life changes.

Yeah. I went ahead and set one up. I don't think I'll do much on it -- I like lj's format better, and it's just one more thing. But it may prove helpful for finding/connecting with some people.

When I had it search my address book, it didn't pull you up, so I haven't sent a friend invite to you. You have no idea how many people with your name are on Facebook. You'll have to send one to me. There are only two people with my name, from what I could see. And only me, I think, with the first name spelled formally, not in nickname.

I am growing less and less fond of the myriad applications for facebook.

However, I have had a much better experience reconnecting with high school classmates than I did with classmates.com

It feels much more... organic.

I spent Thursday evening chatting with a friend I haven't heard from in years, so that was nice. And I found a few more long-lost friends; here's hoping they'll accept my invitations.

But sheesh, those apps you mention...! I've already been SuperPoked, called Naughty, and recruited as a vassal. There's just not time to play all these games. I feel bad, because I would like my friend in the Knighthood game to do well--and I did become her vassal--but I just don't feel good about buying even imaginary people even with imaginary money. And I *really* don't want to start recruiting all my other friends to be my loyal followers. (They actually have a function where you can sign up to be someone else's vassal. Yeah, that's going to be popular.)

This sounds pointlessly time consuming...

The old friend is a treasure, so that
part's great. But all the extra apps can get to be a pain in the butt. Not that's that's kept me from recruiting my husband as a squire, mind you...
